How dVault Secures Your Mail and Packages
Your carrier can deliver to a dVault without ever holding a key. Mail and parcels go in through a delivery door that opens freely. Only you can open the locked access door to take them out. No mailbox is fully theft proof, but two features make each dVault a strong anti-theft mailbox.
The Patented Security Drop Door
The Security Drop Door is dVault’s patented delivery door for its large and extra-large models. When a carrier opens it, a mechanism extends to the back of the unit. That shield keeps hands from reaching the items already inside.
You’ll find it on five of our eight models: the Full Service Vault, Deposit Vault, Deposit Vault with Pedestal, Collection Vault and Package Drop Vault. Each works as a secure package drop box.
The medium-size Weekend Away Vault works differently. Its delivery door has patented anti-theft “teeth”, as dVault explains. All three Weekend Away listings we carry have them.
Anti-Pry Posi-Lock Access Doors
You collect your mail through the access door, so dVault locks it with the Anti-Pry Double Hook Posi-Lock. dVault designs this lock to resist pry attacks. Behind it, the body is 16-gauge galvanized steel with stainless steel hinges and pins.
The result is a large locking mailbox built for daily use outdoors. To compare other locking package mailbox designs, browse our parcel mailboxes and drop boxes.
Compare Every dVault Mailbox We Carry
Every model here is a package mailbox, but they differ in four ways that matter. Read across a row to see how each one mounts, where you open it, the largest package it takes and its USPS curbside status. Package sizes are width x height x depth, from each product page.
| Model | Mount type | Access | Capacity (largest package) | USPS curbside status | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Full Service Vault DVCS0015 | Freestanding on a pad, or in a column | Rear | Extra large: 16.9 x 9.25 x 12 in. | USPS approved, per dVault | $1,499 |
| Deposit Vault DVCS0020 | Freestanding, column or optional pedestal | Rear | Extra large: 16.9 x 9.25 x 12 in. | Not listed as approved | $899 |
| Deposit Vault with Pedestal DVCS0030 | Pedestal | Rear | Extra large: 16.9 x 9.25 x 12 in. | Not listed as approved | $999 |
| Collection Vault DVCS0023 | Freestanding, against a wall or optional pedestal | Front | Extra large: 16.9 x 9.25 x 12 in. | Not listed as approved | $949 |
| Package Drop Vault DVWM0062S | Through-wall, between studs | Rear, through the optional indoor hold | Large: 13 x 8 x 11.25 in. | Wall delivery, not curbside | $599 |
| Weekend Away Vault DVJR0060 | Post (sold separately) or column | Front | Medium: 10.75 x 3.5 x 11.25 in. | Not approved for curbside, per dVault | $499 |
| Weekend Away Junior Delivery Vault with Post | Top-mount post | Front | Medium: 10.75 x 3.5 x 11.25 in. | Not approved for curbside, per dVault | From $619 |
| Junior Delivery Vault with Deluxe Post | Side-mount deluxe post | Front | Medium: 10.75 x 3.5 x 11.25 in. | Not approved for curbside, per dVault | $719 |
Three rows are the same Weekend Away Vault, sold alone or with one of two posts. If two models still look alike, the next section sorts them by how mail reaches your door.
Choosing the Right dVault Model for Your Delivery Setup
Start with one question: how does mail reach your property? A curbside route, a walk-up wall and a busy parcel drop each call for a different mail vault. Find your setup below to pick the residential mailbox for packages that fits your home.
| Curbside or post | Walk-up wall | Freestanding or pedestal |
|---|---|---|
| Full Service Vault, Deposit Vault, Weekend Away Vault (three ways) | Package Drop Vault | Collection Vault, Deposit Vault with Pedestal |
Curbside and Post-Mount Delivery
For curbside mail, start with the Full Service Vault DVCS0015, dVault’s largest mailbox vault. It’s the only dVault with an enclosed outgoing mail area, and dVault lists it as USPS approved. The Deposit Vault DVCS0020 is an extra-large mailbox for packages with no outgoing mail area.
Want a smaller mailbox with package drop? We sell the Weekend Away Vault DVJR0060 apart from its post, in three ways: box only at $499, with a top-mount post from $619, or with a side-mount deluxe post at $719. For other pairings, see our mailbox and post packages.
Wall-Mount and Through-Wall Package Drops
The Package Drop Vault DVWM0062S is a through wall package drop box. Carriers drop mail and parcels through the outside door. Add the optional locking hold, and items collect inside your home or garage behind a rear access door.
dVault says it fits between studs on 16-inch centers, in a 14 5/8 x 17 5/8 in. opening that’s framed and anchored to the house. You’ll need access to the wall framing, and dVault advises a licensed pro for a finished wall.
dVault notes that pillar or gated-entry installs may need a mason or ironworker.
It sits alongside our other wall mount mailboxes.

Freestanding and Pedestal Drop Boxes
Get parcels most days, or travel for weeks? A freestanding package vault suits you. The Collection Vault DVCS0023 opens from the front and comes with a removable tote that holds up to 55 pounds. It has no outgoing mail area by design.
The Deposit Vault with Pedestal DVCS0030 holds the same size parcels. It sits on a pedestal and opens from the rear. Buying for an office or building? See our commercial collection and drop boxes.

USPS Approval and Carrier Delivery Rules
Not every dVault mailbox is USPS approved for curbside delivery. Approval depends on the model.
dVault states that the Full Service Vault DVCS0015 is USPS approved for installation within city limits or rural areas.
dVault states that the Weekend Away Vault DVJR0060 is not approved for curbside USPS delivery. dVault says you can use it for door delivery, subject to your local Postmaster. It also works with UPS, FedEx and other private carriers. dVault does not list the other models on this page as USPS approved for curbside use.
Two postal rules shape how any locking mailbox works. Carriers will not open a locked box, and they won’t take a key to do so (DMM 508.3.2.3). That is why a delivery door that opens without a key matters.
On rural and highway contract routes, carriers won’t leave a parcel too large for the box. The exception is when you’ve filed a written order with the postmaster (DMM 508.2.2.3).
Contact your local Post Office before you install any locking mailbox. For approved designs, read our guide to USPS-approved drop boxes. Mail theft is a federal crime, and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service investigates it.
dVault Finishes, Colors and Warranty
Every dVault comes in five colors: black, white, gray, sand and copper vein. dVault names black and copper vein as its best sellers. The finish is a poly-hammer powder coat over 16-gauge galvanized steel, with stainless steel hinges and pins.
The Weekend Away Vault and Deposit Vault with Pedestal also have a dimpled bottom panel. It keeps a leaking parcel away from your other mail.
dVault backs each unit with a 5-year limited warranty for the original owner. It covers manufacturing defects and moving parts that fail in normal use. Read one exclusion before you plan a column.
Veneering or enclosing the unit the wrong way voids the warranty. The wrong way means the enclosure, or the work of installing it, puts undue pressure on the sides, top, doors or door mechanisms.
Installing Your dVault Mailbox
The steps below follow dVault’s guidance for its post-mount models.
- Contact your local Post Office before you install.
- Set the mail entry point 41 to 45 inches above the road.
- Set the door 6 to 8 inches back from the curb.
- Dig a hole about 6 inches across.
- Go 24 to 28 inches deep for a side-mount post.
- Go 16 to 17 inches deep for an in-ground top-mount post.
- For a surface-mount post, pour a 12 x 12 in. footing 20 inches deep.
- Set any concrete below the frost line.
Planning a column? Thin brick, stone and similar veneers can cover a properly prepared surface. Never veneer the Security Drop Door or the access door, or change the weight of either door mechanism. dVault warns the mechanisms will malfunction. Browse column mount mailboxes for ideas.
